Goochland Community Action Program
“The mission of the Goochland Community Action Program is to advocate for those in need and serve the community by providing eligible individuals with information, services, and resources that will educate, empower, and promote self-sufficiency, self-esteem, and personal dignity.”
The Goochland Community Action Program is an organization that works to reduce poverty and improve the lives of individuals and families within the Goochland community. Using federal funding, we support initiatives and programs aimed at education, employment, housing, and child care. These services are designed to help people become more self-sufficient and reduce poverty’s effects within the community. The Goochland Community Action Program embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion within our organization and within all of the programs and services that we support.
The Goochland Community Action Program is administered by Goochland Social Services. To be eligible for our programs, applicants must be a resident of Goochland County, be a US citizen, and have an income 200% or less of the federal poverty level. These guidelines change each year and can be found on the applications for assistance. For mortgage, rent, or utility bill assistance, applicants must have fallen behind on their bill(s). Other programs include help with supplemental food items, job training, before and after school programs, and summer camps for children.

Job training programs encourage job seekers to increase their knowledge, skills, and abilities in the workforce to improve their marketability, career advancement, and income. Goochland residents can apply for financial assistance to help pay tuition costs for a variety of job training and workforce development programs. Many of these programs offer certifications in the fields of health care, business administration, management, technology, manufacturing, and trades. Contact us for more information.
Summer camp programs offer a wide range of educational classes, recreational classes and groups, and a variety of programs that promote health, wellness, exercise, education, sports, and hobbies for children and youth in Goochland County. After-school programs provide youth, kindergarteners through the fifth grade, a safe, positive, and structured environment where children can participate in educational and recreational activities each day after school. The programs also provide socialization activities, and some programs offer limited assistance with homework. After-school programs also help parents and guardians maintain full- time employment without worrying about their child’s well-being.
