Job Training & Certification

Job training programs encourage job seekers to increase their knowledge, skills, and abilities in the workforce to improve their marketability, career advancement, and income. Goochland residents can apply for financial assistance to help pay tuition costs for a variety of job training and workforce development programs. Many of these programs offer certifications in the fields of health care, business administration, management, technology, manufacturing, and trades. Contact us for more information.

Summer Camp Scholarships

Summer camp programs offer a wide range of educational classes, recreational classes and groups, and a variety of programs that promote health, wellness, exercise, education, sports, and hobbies for children and youth in Goochland County. The program may assist with up to 10 weeks of camp at Goochland Parks and Recreation. For more information, contact Goochland Parks and Recreation at 804-556-5854.

After-School Scholarships

After-school programs provide youth, kindergarteners through the fifth grade, a safe, positive, and structured environment where children can participate in educational and recreational activities each day after school. The programs also provide socialization activities, and some programs offer limited assistance with homework. After-school programs also help parents and guardians maintain full-time employment without worrying about their child’s well-being. Electric/Utility Assistance

Emergency financial assistance provides help with electric and other heat or cooling-related utilities for Goochland residents. These programs are for residents experiencing a crisis or financial hardship. Contact us for more information

Rent or Mortgage Assistance

Emergency financial assistance provides help with rent or mortgage payments for Goochland residents. These programs are for residents experiencing a crisis or financial hardship. Contact us for more information.

Food Gift Cards

Monthly food gift cards are offered to eligible residents of Goochland County. These gift cards supplement existing food programs so families can purchase healthy and nutritious foods for their families. Contact us for more information.

Partner Programs

Headstart

Head Start programs support children's growth from birth to age 5 through services that support early learning and development, health, and family well-being. Head Start staff actively engage parents, recognizing family participation throughout the program as key to strong child outcomes. For information, call 804-556-5615.

Home Repairs

The home repair program helps clients maintain a safe and healthy living environment. This program is managed by our partners at Goochland Cares. Thelma Bland Watson Personal Care Aide School

The PCA School will enroll Goochland County residents to complete a 40-hour course, pass the PCA exam, and become prepared for employment as a PCA working in private duty, agency, or consumer-directed settings. Brown Bag Program

Students suffering from food insecurity receive a brown bag lunch to help them through the weekend. County Line Baptist Church administrates this important program at Byrd Elementry.

Employment Transportation Support

The Employment Transportation Support program provides assistance to unemployed or underemployed Goochland residents. Services may include car repairs, gas cards, driving class, one-time titling and registration, and payment of vehicle insurance for up to two months in order to obtain and maintain employment.
